The Elements of Home Staging

Staging your home has become a need in today’s real estate market as buyers continue to desire a move-in ready home. It helps in selling your home for the good money in less time. Professional staging incorporates design methods to boost the marketability of your home. Some of the most important elements of Home staging are-

Deferred maintenance problems

Never let your buyers inherit you “to do” list. There are many small things that should be overlooked throughout the years, but must be addressed before listing. Replacing worn carpet and new paint is a must for making your home fresh.

Furniture placement and style

Furniture should be in good condition and placed in the rooms in a method that highlight the room’s feature. As you are selling your home, staging strikes the balance between creating an open feel, while still maintaining a warm feel. Be sure to eliminate any swag, floral, cornice boards throughout your home. Natural light boosts a room far than outdated window treatments.

De-personalizing and De-cluttering

Many of us have collections on display that take up space in our homes. These include wall shelves, curio cabinets, overly-full bookshelves, and items on the floor. Eliminating these items their contents reduces the visual clutter that is perceived in pictures and opens up space.

Neutral background

Strong colors are a deterrent to buyers. It can also help to remove musty odors and give your house a whole new feel. The painting has one of the biggest returns on investment for making a move-in ready home.

“Why I left engineering to design homes “

I grew up in India, where you have limited options in one’s career. I could either be a doctor or an engineer. I chose to be a Mechanical engineer and graduated with a degree in 1994 from a prestigious college in rural India.

From early on, I was fascinated by decorating my home. I had no idea that this would turn into my career later on in life. When I moved to Canada, I worked in several reputable engineering firms for over 15 years. Even though I had a stable life, job, I was unhappy. Waking up would be difficult, as I didn’t enjoy what I did. I felt that there was something bigger out there for me, something I would be passionate about that deserved my attention. I digged deep to understand where my passion lies, and it was in staging.

I decided to try home staging as a career path. Initially I worked both as an engineer, and started my own company on the side. I worked mainly on weekends, started with small projects, but a few months later I found much success so I persuaded it full time. Now 3 years later, here I am with Spangle Staging thriving in Toronto, Canada.

It wasn’t easy, I started with no network, no inventory, limited knowledge about the real estate market. But I worked hard, because this business is tough, passion and grit are what made me successful. Starting your business takes a lot of effort, that many don’t realize. Working long hours every day, anywhere from 10-14 hours was mentally and physically exhausting.

A lot of folks don’t realize the effort it takes to stage a home. It’s not only about the design aspect which requires a certain artistic eye, but also coordinating inventory, working with homeowners, real estate agents, furniture rental companies, movers, requires much organization. Depending on the uniqueness of the property, jobs can take anywhere from three days to one week. Behind the scenes of operating a staging company, how we position ourselves is important as well. From marketing to designing our website, we take pride in our work.

The most rewarding part staging is the ability to showcase a home in its true light and potential. The happiness that we feel when our client knows how hard we worked to make their home look beautiful, means a lot to me. Because I deal not only with the home owners but also the real-estate agents, it can be difficult to show them my vision. It important that when we work with clients, they are prepared that their home will be altered to a contemporary/modern design that’s appreciated by the buyers.

At Spangle Staging, we want to provide the best service possible and help you sell your home. We know how hard it is to sell a home, we want to help you make that transition easy. When I started this company, I did not expect to go on how an exciting journey especially in this market where homes are a necessity.

After 3 years, I reflect on difficult it has been but very rewarding. I wake up every morning with a smile and excitement that I’m going to go out there and do my best job. Thank you to everyone who helped support me in this journey, especially my family and colleagues .

Thank you to the incredible clients I have worked with. I’m excited for the new direction Spangle Staging is heading, I hope you are too!
